multimedia and contextual data. The system enables users to fully
interact with the content, both in a linear and a non-linear way. A set
of dynamic maps of the world is included with the content and users
can zoom in on the location, the time and the events themself. | Inhalt: | Ancient Rome in many ways can be seen as the start of "Western
civilization" and as such is the starting point of Historia Universalis
digital library. The content is organized as a series of timelines that
link series of events that shaped the development and demise of the
Rome. For every event that has accompanying data and/or
multimedia, that data is arranged into a separate layer and available
to the user with a single click directly from the event itself. Some
events, related to the curriculum, have integrated questions that are
aimed to enhance the learning process.
The title is accessible as online (web) content, but has fully
implemented SCORM interface and can be included as a content
module into any SCORM compatible LMS. The content is also
smartboard compatible, with integrated navigation panel.
Users can move trough time and see the events shown on the map
at the location where they happened when they happened. By
combining timelines of interest user can explore and compare events
in the sequence in which they occurred and observe relations both in
space and in time. The data is granulated, where one event can be
shown on one timeline and simultaneously have its own timeline
showing the details of that event as they occurred. For example, in
"Founding of Rome" is the legend how the geese saved the city from
Gaelic attack given as a single event, but this legend exists also as a
timeline on its own and can be examined in detail. This enables
users to get the overview of the most important events and at the
same time has capability to do full research of topics of interest.
Along with the events from selected timelines, the map of the world
changes over time to reflect social and political changes in a given
period. The most detailed view is in the core area of interest,
Mediterranean, but all major civilizations of that time are shown to
show both local and global influences on the events. | Retrieval |
