Abstract:Our environment, economic and social relations are far from being perfect. We are confronted with this fact from day to day when we hear about environmental pollution, climate change, shutting down of factories, strike and mass dismissal in the news. A responsible thinking person is expected to have an in-depth knowledge of all these problems. This 60-minute course presents the nature of economic, environmental and social problems, the idea of sustainable development and that of individual and corporate responsibility. What are the possibilities of the individual and how does OTP Bank as a responsible company contribute to the solution of these problems? These are the questions discussed in this highly interactive, user-friendly e-learning course, applying the latest 3D-technology, developed by Neting Informatics Ltd. OTP Bank´s internal training material is a high quality, logically arranged, highly interactive work whose most important positive impact is the forming of attitude. The result of the work turned the 18-page source material into a 42-screen e-learning project that can be completed in one hour by the student on his/her own. An important consideration of the preparation of the material was clearness, a straightforward and logical approach, the concept of ´learning by playing´ and the retained balance between the various subject areas, giving the same weight to the presentation of environmental, social and economic issues. The training material answers questions such as: •What is the effect of OTP Group´s operation on the environment and the society? •Why are these subjects important for our group of companies? •What is sustainable development and sustainability? •Whose role is it to foster sustainable development? •What does Corporate Social Responsibility mean? •What is responsibility in the financial sector? •How is it included in OTP Bank´s strategy and how is it implemented? In addition to providing information and presenting potential solutions, the objective was to raise interest in the subject. Subjects with special emphasis include responsible communication and client information, selective collection of waste, the importance of reducing unnecessary CO2 emissions and taking responsibility for disabled people. The features of the electronic training material: The training material presents the various subjects using similar layout and structure, supporting well-ordered, conscious learning and knowledge acquisition. The methodology emphasizes learning involving problem solving and a practical approach. The requirements of environmentally aware behaviour are presented through interactive, thought-evoking and guiding exercises. At the same time, the user can recognise any bad habits of his/her own through real-life examples. 3D images, animations, exercises involving movement, interactive simulations, opening and closing pages of chapters help users focus their attention and maintain motivation. The presented theoretical information is supported by visual tools helping recall. Illustrative pictures referring to parts of the text, background images, illustrations, explanatory images, built-in movies and animations. Additional features and parts of the training material, supporting the efficiency of training, are the following: - The Table of Contents has 3 main functions: 1. The learning process can be traced, in other words icons show the user the units of the training he/she has completed. Therefore a training unit can have the status of "not started", "not completed", "completed" or "successfully/unsuccessfully" learnt. 2. Thanks to the bookmark function, the training material opens at the position it was previously left off. 3. The table of contents of course makes uncontrolled browsing of the material possible. - The so called "left bar" presents continuous information about the structure of the training material. - The "Reference to completing the training material" and the "Help" functions provide detailed information about the signs and icons used, about the structure of the material, the layout of the pages and the self-revision exercises; they also provide useful information helping to learn the training material. - The end of each chapter contains self revision exercises that can help users assess how well they have been able to learn the material. This also makes preparing for later recitations easier. Electronic learning enables users to directly review and revise the content related to the given exercise by clicking on the "View training material" button. - At the completion of the training process users must/can present their knowledge by completing a test. - Any comment and feedback received through the mailing system, accessible directly from the program, can be used when further developing the training material. The training material offers two navigation methods. One of them is the sequential order of the table of contents using the "Forward" and "Back" buttons of the navigation bar; the other one is an arbitrary order using the Table of Contents. The training material presents information in 4 main chapters, following a general introduction section. Main chapters can be freely browsed, in other words the order for the navigation is not set. Nevertheless, sequential reading is recommended. The contents of main chapters are however integrated; therefore a sequential progress is mandatory during learning, as required by our customer. This is supported by the "locked pages" function: the user is prevented from moving ahead until the main training elements of the main page are not completed. When using the program offline, from a CD or through the web, locking is active on a computer during the time of the first reading; this means that during any subsequent learning and repetition sessions the pages visited earlier can be reviewed in any order. If training is arranged as part of a training management system, this function is applicable to a specific user. Self revision exercises, which close the main chapters, can be completed at any time during the learning process; the user can even elect to try and solve self-revision exercises first, before starting to review the information pages. The Knowledge Revision Test, found at the end of the training material, serves as an examination; it is very important to ensure that it cannot be completed until the user is not done with (in our case) at least 25% of the training material. This means that the training page can only be accessed once the user has reviewed at least 25% of the training pages (meaning at least one chapter). The Diploma page becomes active only following a successful test. It cannot be opened if the user has not scored at least 70% at the test. OTP Bank is a major Hungarian employer. As such, the responsibility for our employees is an important aspect of our role in society. The bank has significance in the life of thousands of people by providing a living and by establishing a standard of life. By the end of 2008, OTP Bank reached a milestone in its CSR activities; now they would like to involve more and more employees in the processes of the bank, so that responsible attitude can become widespread in the daily routine. A survey shows that our employees are open-minded, and they consider OTP Bank´s social responsibility an important role; they also demand continuous and detailed information about the Bank´s CSR activities and social responsibility practices. Forming public attitude, creating products for disadvantaged people and supporting environment protection and green investments are important issues for many people. The Bank aims at building the concept of sustainability into the main processes of the corporation; the obvious prerequisite is to involve employees in the CSR activities. Their strategy, implemented in 2007, was phrased the following way: "our aim is to turn responsible operation into a natural habit for each corporate employee, and to ensure that the related requirements are available in the work environment" The Bank is trying to implement the prerequisites in the widest range possible and to provide the related tools; in addition to material and other requirements the promotion of attitudes and responsible thinking is also considered to be important. It was decided that the best way to achieve these objectives was a comprehensive training in the form of a structured knowledge source. The selected training method was e-learning with the main advantage that it provides objective and standardised information transmission. The development focused on creating a highly interactive electronic CSR training material to form corporate culture. More and more companies reflect publicly on their economic, environmental and social impact through their annual CSR reports globally. This information helps stakeholders understand how a given company positions itself as part of a broader social environment. The standard called Global Reporting Initiative is used by over 1000 organisations in over 60 countries to present their operation and the impacts. While a few of the companies simply do not want to, or dare not to be left behind by the majority, most companies have significant motivations and business reasons: •The more efficient management of CSR issues. •The reduction of environmental risks. •Improving or protecting their reputation. •Improving stakeholder relations, with special emphasis on consumer and investor relations. •More precise performance measurement and management. •Further developing internal and external communications. According to surveys, most reports are prepared by companies in the energy and the public utilities sectors, but a large number of financial service providers, telecommunication firms and food industry corporations publish their CSR reports, too. In Hungary, 53 companies had published some form of CSR report by 2008. At present, most companies are only trying to find the way to turn the handling of CSR issues into an efficient management tool. Most of these companies, including OTP Bank, aim at turning responsible operation into a natural habit for each corporate employee; promoting and forming attitudes is considered to be of great importance. These goals can be achieved easily and efficiently with the help of our electronic training material containing the organised source of information titled "Corporate Social Responsibility".
